LIT234   Renaissance Literature   (20 credits)

Year Running: 2019/2020
Credit level: F5

Description

This module surveys the poetry and prose of the early modern period in England, i.e., that written between the beginnings of the sixteenth and the middle of the seventeenth centuries. We will look at different genres, from court complaint to sonnets to prose fiction and erotic verse. The texts studied will be related to critical methods that have, in recent years, been developed to help us understand the relationships between literature and the culture, society, and politics of the period in which it was produced.
